Proposed Districts

The Town of Danvers Historic District Commission held public hearings in September and October, 2022, which discussed the establishment of new historic districts under the provisions of MGL c 40C, as amended. The Commission voted unanimously at its November public meeting to ask town meeting to consider creating the “James Putnam Jr. House Historic District” which is made up of Assessor’s Parcel ID number 034 003, with a street address of 42 Summer Street, to save this First Period c.1715 house from demolition.

The Commission believes that creating this district will better preserve the character and historical significance of Danvers.  As required by law, it has drafted a Final Study Report on this proposed district, which summarizes the resources present in them and demonstrates additional protections a local historic district bylaw would provide.
