[ARCHIVED] Trash and Recycling Upcoming Program Changes

Trash changes Image

In September, the Town of Danvers will implement changes to our curbside trash and recycling collection program. The reasoning behind these changes is twofold: to decrease waste production and to maximize the efficiency of collection operations.  The new collection process in Danvers is consistent with how the industry has standardized in recent years. The Town will provide residents with more information and educational material regarding these changes before the launch of the new program.

Changes planned to be implemented in September will include the following:

  • Standardized carts will be provided to residents currently serviced by the town’s curbside collection program. Residents will receive a 96-gallon cart for recyclables and a 64-gallon cart for trash. A second refuse cart will be available for purchase.
  • The hauler will be transitioning to automated collection vs. manual collection. With this change, collection crews will no longer ride on the back of the trucks.
  • The Town will return to every other week collection of recycling. Residents will be informed of their recycling week collection prior to this change.
  • The Town will continue to support a Bulky Item Collection sticker program.
  • Leaf and yard waste collection will remain the same.
  • Drop-off at the Transfer Station will still be available.

The Town has received the Residential Curbside Recycling Cart Grant from The Recycling Partnership to help offset the purchase cost of the recycling carts and provide Danvers residents with educational tools on how to recycle correctly. The Town will be partnering with The Recycling Partnership to implement this new cart-based curbside program to increase the residential recycling rate and decrease contamination.

The Town has created a web page on our website with FAQs and additional information, https://www.danversma.gov/806/NEW-Upcoming-Changes.
