Citizens Academy is a 10-session program that provides an up-close view of local government. Participants will take a deep dive into all aspects of their Town government through a variety of classes and interactive activities. Participants will explore the following departments: Town Government overview, Finance & Budgeting, Fire, School DPW, Planning & Economic Development, Inspectional Services, Recreation, Library, Police, Senior Center, Veterans, Public Health , IT, Electric, and Engineering.
The academy is open to Danvers residents who are 16 years of age by July 1, 2023. However, consideration also will be given to applicants who work but don't live in Danvers. The first session, covering General Government and Town overview, will take place at the Danvers Town Hall on Thursday, September 14, from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.
"Feedback from both participants and staff has been overwhelmingly positive", said Town Manager Steve Bartha. "We have hired graduates to work for the Town, have appointed graduates to serve on boards and committees, and have seen graduates share their new knowledge by answering questions or social media, attending public hearings, and engaging in the democratic process."
Registration opens August 3rd, and applications are due by August 25th. Additional Information on how to register and the program schedule is available on the Citizens Academy page.
