1. Is there In Person Early Voting for Sept 6, 2022 State Primary?

2. What are the election results for the May 3, 2022 Annual Town Election?

Keep in mind that write-ins need a minimum of 10 votes, also, the 18th seat cannot end in a tie, both situations are considered "failure to elect". Please email Cathy Ellsworth or call 978-777-0001, ext. 3046 with any questions you may have.

3. Can I vote by mail?

As of June 22, 2022, an election reform law titled "The VOTES Act" was signed into law. Effective immediately, early voting by mail is available for all state elections, state primaries, and presidential primaries.

The State will be sending a vote by mail application card to each registered voter in July 2022. Application cards can be returned by U.S. Mail, placed in the secure drop box at the bottom of the front steps to Town Hall or directly to the Clerk's Office. Ballots will be sent as soon as they are available.

If for some reason, you need an application, you can use the 2022 Vote by Mail Paper Application (PDF).

Note: For the September 2022 Primary Election, if you are an "Unenrolled" voter, you need to designate which ballot you are requesting on the form.

There is still the Absentee voting option for those who meet the criteria for that option. Please see post for Absentee requirements.

4. How do I become a Poll Worker?

We are always looking for Poll Workers, anyone interested should email Cathy Ellsworth the Town Clerk. Please include your name, address, phone and email contact information and she will reach out to you.

Poll Worker hours are generally from 6:45 am to 8:15 pm (Election polls are open from 7 am-8 pm), with several breaks throughout the day. The initial primary function for new Poll Workers is to check voters either in or out at the polls, once you are comfortable, there may be option to move to other functions throughout the day. Please reach out with any questions.

5. When is the next election in Danvers?

The State has set the 2022 State Primary date for Tuesday, September 6, 2022 and the State Election for Tuesday, November 8, 2022. All Danvers voters vote at Danvers High School. 6. How do I become a Town Meeting Member?

Danvers is divided into eight Precincts consisting of 18 Town Meeting Members for a 3-year term. Each year, 6 Members are up for re-election in May at the Annual Town Election. There are a total of 149 Town Meeting Members including the 5 Select Board Members. Those who are interested in running for a Town Meeting seat may obtain nomination papers at the Town Clerks' Office and sign the nomination book on or after February 1st prior to the May Annual Town Election.

Your nomination sheet must contain a minimum of 10 registered voters who live within your precinct in order to have your name placed on the ballot. At times, due to various reasons (resignation, move out of town, etc.), an unexpired seat may come up between election cycles. Current Town Meeting Members or the Moderator may request a "caucus" be held prior to a Town or Special Town Meeting if there are vacant seats.

In the event of a caucus, notification of caucus details will be made by the Town Clerk to the current members of Precincts that have vacancies. A location and time will be arranged by the Town Clerk just prior to the Town or Special Town Meeting to allow the current Precinct Town Meeting Members that have the vacancy to caucus. Any interested registered voter that lives in the Precinct with the vacancy can appear at the caucus, give a short presentation about themselves and why they feel they would be the best candidate to fill the vacancy until the next Annual Town Election.

After all candidates have had the opportunity to present to the Precinct Members, the current Precinct Members will vote by secret ballot to select the new member. The newly elected member would complete the nomination acceptance document and could participate in any Town or Special Town Meeting held until the next election where they will (if they choose) run to maintain their seat.

7. Where do I return my Absentee Ballot?

Your Absentee ballot must be returned to the Town Clerks office located at Town Hall 1 Sylvan Street. You may drop your properly executed ballot in the drop box located at the bottom of the front stairs to Town Hall. If you choose to mail your ballot back, you must allow sufficient time for it to get to us prior to the close of the polls on election day.

Please note that you may not return your absentee ballot at the polls on election day, you will be directed to return it to Town Hall.

9. Where can I find an application for Absentee Voting?

• Absentee Voting will be available for registered voters who qualify as follows:
• Only those who will be absent from their city or town on Election Day, or
• Have a disability that prevents them from going to the polls, or
• Have a religious belief preventing the same, are legally allowed to vote by absentee ballot.

A handwritten or scanned signature is required on an executed application to obtain an absentee voting ballot. Your absentee application must be received no later than noon the day before the election. You may return your signed, executed, scanned application by email of the Town Clerk, place it in the drop box at the bottom of the front steps to Town Hall or by U.S. Mail.

Please utilize the dropbox at the bottom of the front steps to town hall if possible to ensure your ballot gets back to U.S. As soon as possible.

When you receive your ballot please fill it out, you must sign the small ballot envelope, place your ballot in the return envelope, seal it with tape and place all in the white envelope and return by mail or drop it off in the drop box at Town Hall (be sure to allow enough time for it to get to us before the polls close on Election Day).

As always, you may not return absentee ballots directly to the polls on Election Day, they must be returned to the Town Clerk's Office on Sylvan Street.

You can visit the Massachusetts Election Division, if you do not find the information you are looking for you may contact the Town of Danvers Clerk's Office.

15. Where do I vote?

All precincts vote at the Danvers High School, 60 Cabot Road, Danvers. For information on early voting or other voting related questions please contact the Clerk’s Office.

16. How do I register to vote?

You can register to vote online or at the Clerk's Office in Town Hall. You may contact the Town of Danvers Clerk's Office with any voting related questions.
