1. What items can be recycled curbside?

Danvers has dual stream recycling:

• Containers can be comingled: glass bottles and jars, metal cans and foil, and plastic containers may be put together in one recycling bin.
• Paper including newspaper, magazines, paperboard, etc. may be bagged in paper, tied or put in a separate recycling bin.
• Cardboard must be cut, flattened to 4 feet by 4 feet and bundled to no thicker than 1 foot. Smaller boxes may be nested.

2. How do I find my trash and recycling pickup day?

To find out your trash and recycling pickup day, please call the Department of Public Works at 978-762-0231. Trash and recycling information is available on the Town of Danvers Curbside Collection Section.

3. How do I recycle textiles?

Danvers residents with curbside trash and recycling pickup can recycle unwanted textiles. Details below. (Service Update June 2021)

• For Curbside Textile Recycling managed by Simple Recycling, you must schedule an appointment on their website or call 866-835-5068.
• Items no longer need to be in pink bags. Place textiles in either a bag or a box curbside or by your back door on the morning of your scheduled pick up.

The Danvers Department of Public Works (DPW) is providing this service, free to the residents of Danvers, in partnership with Simple Recycling. Please see the below link for details.

Danvers offers two zero waste weekend recycling events annually in the spring and fall. One of the services offered is textile recycling. We accept clothing, shoes, purses, linens, bedding, etc. Please see our Events for details. Many charities will also recycle textiles - you can contact them directly for pickup or you can drop your textiles in any labeled bin.

5. Can I purchase a recycling bin from the Town?

Residents can purchase 22 gallon recycling bins ($5) and 32 gallon wheeled recycling carts with covers ($40) at the Department of Public Works (DPW) Garage at 95 Hobart Street from 7 am to 2:45 pm (pay by Check Only made out to the Town of Danvers). Please call 978-762-0231 with any questions and to check availability.

Any durable, reusable container can act as your recycling bin, as long as it is properly marked for recycling, is no bigger than 45 gallons, and does not weigh more than 50 pounds. Free "Recycle" stickers are available to Danvers' residents at the following Town offices:

• Business Division - 2 Burroughs Street
• DPW Garage - 95 Hobart Street

The Haverhill Resource Recovery Facility is located on a 147-acre area in the Ward Hill Neck section of Haverhill, MA. The facility processes 1,650 tons per day of solid waste, generating up to 49 megawatts of renewable energy. The facility is equipped with a ferrous and non-ferrous metal recycling system and an air-cooled condenser that condenses turbine exhaust.

8. Who do I call when my trash has not been picked up?

• Was your trash out by 7 am? Your items need to be curbside by 7 am to ensure pickup - truck routes are subject to change.
• Did you have recycling out in addition to your trash? Recycling is mandatory and your trash will not be picked up if you do not recycle.
• Is there a delay due to a holiday or bad weather? Holidays are listed on our Department of Public Works (DPW) Calendar and any last-minute changes are posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
• If none of these reasons apply, please contact the DPW at 978-762-0231 so that we may assist you.

9. How do I get rid of large trash items?

You can purchase stickers to dispose of your large trash items curbside. Please refer to the section on Bulky Item Pickup.

10. Can I put cut grass clippings in my trash?

Yard Waste Pickup occurs approximately 12 times a year. Yard waste must be placed in open barrels separated from your trash or in paper yard waste bags (no larger than 45 gallons or 50 pounds). For pickup dates and more information, refer to the section on Yard Waste Pickup.
