On June 1, 2019, the Town of Danvers will begin implementing the Plastic Bag Reduction By-Law that was approved last year at Town Meeting. This ban will affect retail stores at the point of sale by removing the single-use plastic shopping bag that has become typical of the industry. In anticipation of June 1st, the Town has worked closely with the Earth Stewards, a local group that spearheaded the prohibition, to ensure a smooth transition for local businesses.
The Town is currently collecting both new and used bags for distribution. If you are a local area business who wishes to join the effort with a donation of new, re-usable checkout bags, please reach out to our Assistant Health Director, Mark Carleo at 978-777-0001 x 3022 or firstname.lastname@example.org, and he will work with you to make arrangements. Any individual who wishes to donate their extra bags, either new or used, please leave them in the bin located in the lobby of Town Hall near the reception desk.
