DANVERS WINTER PARKING BAN: The Winter Parking Ban is in effect for snow events in order to perform winter operations

Danvers, MA – Town officials announce the winter parking ban for the 2021-2022 season. The winter parking is intended to keep streets open and safe, allowing the DPW crews to remove snow during winter storm events properly. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for alternative off-street parking. Included below is key information about the winter parking ban:

When is it?

The winter parking ban may be enacted from December 1 to April 1 if weather conditions warrant.

How is parking affected?

During a “normal” snow event, the Town may implement a winter parking ban to complete snow operations. When implemented, on street parking is prohibited throughout the town between 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM. During a “major” winter storm, the parking ban may be enacted around the clock until winter storm operations are completed. The fine for violating the parking ban is $25, and the vehicle may be towed at the owner’s expense.

How will I be notified?

When a parking ban is instituted, the Town of Danvers notifies residents and businesses by phone, e-mail and/or cell phone text message based on your preferences specified in our community notification system, Blackboard Connect. During “normal” operations, a Town-wide call will be made the evening prior by 7:00 PM, with notification of the implemented overnight parking ban. For “major” winter storms, a Town-wide call will be made no later than six hours ahead of the effective time, when possible.

Land lines of all residents and businesses are automatically included in our community notification system. If you would like to change your preferences, go to, select Departments—Public Works and under DPW Links click on “Set Up Notification Preferences”. You have the option to receive information from us via phone call, e-mail and/or cell phone text message.

Message boards displaying the parking ban notification will be placed on main roads in town. In addition, local news websites and DCAT are notified. Information is also posted to the Town of Danvers website at and social media outlets.  Like our Danvers DPW Facebook Page and follow us on Twitter @DanversDPW for updates.

How long will the parking ban last?

The parking ban remains in effect until snow operations are completed. The Town will make a second call to residents and businesses to notify you when the parking ban is lifted. A parking ban may last several days depending on the extent of the storm and cleanup operations. Please be mindful to keep vehicles off streets during snowstorms, when possible, even when the parking ban is not in place. Clear streets make snow removal by the DPW more efficient.
