  • Directions

For over 40 years, Earth Day—April 22—has inspired and mobilized individuals and organizations worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. In Danvers, we are celebrating Earth Day by offering residents a two day event where they can recycle a variety of items not collected by curbside pickup!  The Town of Danvers Department of Public Works Earth Day Zero Waste Weekend will be held on May 5 & 6, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Danvers High School parking lot at 60 Cabot Road.  This residential event is co-sponsored with Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, XTechnology Global and JRM.

Residents may bring bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linens, and small toys for Big Brother Big Sister Foundation.  In addition, they will be collecting books, DVDs, CDs, video games and records – no VHS tapes, audio tapes, magazines or encyclopedias please.

XTechnology Global will collect electronics including TVs and computer monitors ($15 each up to 20 inches—measure diagonally, $25 anything larger than 20 inches); air conditioners, computers, laptops and dehumidifiers ($5 each); stereos and VCRs ($3 each).  Cell phones and all other small electronics are free.  Certificates of Destruction are also available ($5 each).  XTech will donate a portion of the money collected to the Danvers Community Council.

JRM will shred up to 2 boxes of your confidential papers (there is a $5.00 charge for subsequent boxes).  The money collected will be donated to the Danvers Community Council.

Metal items (file cabinets, grills, bicycles, hangers, appliances, patio furniture, curtain rods, doors, ironing boards, ladders, etc.) will be collected for recycling by the Town of Danvers. We will also be collecting rigid plastics (trash barrels, buckets, tubs, bins, outdoor furniture, toys, etc.).

Cub Scout Packs 16 & 155 will be collecting redeemable bottles & cans ALL WEEKEND.

Thanks to funding from the Sustainable Materials and Recovery Program Grant, Danvers can offer its residents Compost Bins for a discounted price of $25. Rain Barrels will not be for sale at the event, but stay tuned for a new Rain Barrel Rebate Program. Recycling bins and carts will be available for purchase by residents at a discounted rate of $5 and $40, respectively.  Residents can purchase these items at the event with a check made out to the Town of Danvers.  No cash accepted. Limited number; first-come, first-served; no pre-orders.

We’ll also be handing out information about several DPW Sustainability Programs.  If you have questions, please refer to the Events section on the Public Works page or front page of the Town of Danvers’ website at or contact the DPW at 978-777-0001 x3011. We’re also on Facebook and Twitter at Danvers DPW. Danvers Recycles – together we can make a difference!!
