The Town of Danvers seeks applications for the full-time position of Assistant Building Inspector. Under the general direction of the Building Commissioner, this position is responsible for assisting in all activities relating to building code enforcement in the Town. This position must adhere to applicable provisions of the M.G.L., local regulations, and bylaws.
Duties include inspecting new and existing buildings to ensure conformity with structural requirements, conducting annual business inspections, issuing certificates, responding to inquiries, and enforcing compliance with regulations.
The Town of Danvers zoning administration functions are performed within the Planning and Economic Development division by the Zoning Administrator. Zoning administration/enforcement is not a main component of the Assistant Building Inspector position.
The Town will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item in the qualification section of the job description is labeled required. Desired qualifications include an Associate degree in a field relating to building construction or design, or experience comparable to expert knowledge of all applicable codes, statutes, rules, regulations and bylaws. Five (5) years of experience in supervision of building construction or design. The successful candidate will have current certification by the State Building Code Commission as a Local Inspector or have the ability to maintain such certification within the first eighteen (18) months of employment. A Massachusetts Construction Surveyor License is preferred. Must possess a valid state driver’s license issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

This is a full-time, 35 hour per week position with normal work hours of Monday through Wednesday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Thursday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Annual salary range of $64,761 – $78,882, starting rate depending on qualifications.
