What are the specifications for a Banner hanging?

The Town of Danvers limits banner hangings to a period of one week at one end of the square ONLY.

The Material used for the banner must be 18 oz. to withstand environmental elements. Banner should be approximately 28” to 30” in width and a maximum length of 22 feet.

Grommets (no smaller than #3 with 7/16” hole) across the top and bottom edge every 18” to 24” plus all four corners. The four corners and top edge need to be reinforced with webbing for tension. Approximately 6 – 8 wind cuts also need to be installed to help prevent damage to the banner.

Snap hooks (1/4” thickness X 3” length) are required for every grommet hole and must be included with banner when dropped off.

Please drop off banner at the Engineering Division, DPW Office at 1 Burroughs Street (Hours of Operation: Monday – Wednesday 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.; Thursday 7:00 A.M. – 7:30 P.M., and Friday 7:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.) one week before it is scheduled to be displayed. Please arrange to pick up banner when scheduled display time is complete.       Banners not collected within 30 days will be discarded.

If you have any questions regarding specifications, feel free to call the Technical Administrative Assistant, Miriam Contois, at (978)777-2668 X 620.

Also, it will be necessary for you to secure a special liability bond in the amount of $5,000, to defend, indemnify and hold the Town of Danvers harmless in the event any suit or claim is filed as a result of an accident caused by or relating to the banner. Please send a copy of your Bond to the Town Clerk’s Office, 1 Sylvan Street, Danvers. Your banner will not be hung if you do not provide this bond well in advance of your hang date. This exact language must be incorporated in the body of the bond OR by an endorsement to your existing liability policies with these words:

“To defend, indemnify and hold the Town of Danvers harmless in the event of any suit or claim filed as a result of the Banner.  The endorsement is referable only to claims relating to the banner.”

Banners that do not meet these specifications will not be hung as they may present a safety hazard to Danvers Electric installers and the general public.
