Placing Flags at Veterans’ Gravesites – Walnut Grove Cemetery

The public is invited to participate in honoring all veterans resting in peace at Walnut Grove Cemetery by placing flags at veteran gravesites.  On Wednesday & Thursday, May 24 & 25, from 4PM to 7PM, the Danvers Veterans Services Officer will be distributing flags at the Sylvan Street entrance to the cemetery (across from the library) to those who would like to assist.   All are welcome to help with this important civic duty.

Veterans Memorial Sunday 2017

The Sunday before Memorial Day is observed as Veterans Memorial Sunday.  This year the Annual Veterans Memorial Sunday Observance will be held Sunday, May 28th, at the 9:30 am services of Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, 16 Sylvan Street, Danvers.  Each year veterans visit a different church to attend its service.   It is a sign of reverence for all veterans and memorializes this country’s freedom of religion guaranteed by the Constitution.  All veterans are invited and encouraged to attend.  For additional information, contact Dick Moody at 978-836-2395.

Memorial Day Events 2017

The Annual Danvers Memorial Day parade will take place this year on Monday, May 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Donald M. Gould, will be this year’s Grand Marshal.  Due to his sudden passing, his children Charles Gould and Susan McGrath will be riding in his memory. The Danvers Veterans Council is honored to designate him as Grand Marshal posthumously.  He was chosen because of his extensive service to Operation Troop Support and his unwavering patriotism.

All Danvers veterans are invited to march in the parade in their civilian capacity.  For those unable to march, a trolley will be available at Town Hall and is handicapped accessible.

The parade will start from the Town Hall at 9:00 a.m. sharp on Monday, May 29, and will follow the traditional route of previous years.  Stops and placement of wreaths will be at the Porter Cemetery on High Street, Lane Parkway and the Memorial Flag Pole in Danvers Square.  A reviewing stand will be at the corner of Elm and Essex Streets.

The Memorial Day Exercise at Town Hall will commence at approximately 10:00 a.m. upon parade completion.  The Danvers High School Marching Band and Chamber Singers will perform.  Guest speaker will be Richard B. Trask, Town Archivist.  The public is invited to attend this ceremony honoring all veterans.
